Harrison Painter got their new logo & brand guide by running a design contest:
A powerful logo needed for life-changing prison education program

Bending Bars is a rebrand of a civics course we teach in prisons. We incorporate American History, government, economics, and philosophy into the class and inmates typically get into deep discussions around topics like the Bill of Rights and ideas of Plato. Most of our students are serving 20+ year to life prison sentences. The logo will be used to launch a new podcast (Bending Bars Podcast) interviewing former inmates who have been released and are now productive citizens, family members who have been impacted, Florida Atlantic University teaching volunteers, and prison leadership who are ambassadors for the course. (*We are also shooting a Bending Bars documentary series interviewing the above folks as well).
We want this logo to look corporate enough for donor approval but fresh enough to be used for podcast and video promotions. I don't really have a true concept in mind, but we DO NOT want to portray anyone breaking out of prison or go down a red, white, and blue patriotic path that could get mixed in with the current political chaos. Bending Bars is about creating environments through education and conversation that helps the inmates make up their own minds about what is important to them moving forward. Think more of a second chance, jailhouse key, or a Phoenix rising from the ashes vibe.
