Food & Drink
Blue Slate exists to help make a healthy, active lifestyles easier (to those who are conscious of their health) by providing healthy, full-flavor, plant-based foods (that are high protein, low carb). Right now we’re focusing on making tortillas. If the business grows, we’ll branch into other foods. Our target audience (the people who would be consuming our tortillas and other foods down the line) are fitness/nutrition enthusiasts, and those looking to adhere to a plant-based diet and want consume more protein/meet nutrition goals.
In three words, our brand is: strong, simple and playful. We take health and quality seriously, but are good natured and playful about everything else. This is a consumer package good, so we're hoping the branding will stick out from other tortilla brands on the shelf (which use a lot of yellows/reds/oranges) but still be appealing in the food space. Meaning behind Blue Slate: Blue = Name comes from Blue Zones, a study that found the healthiest people who live the longest, live in areas of the world called “Blue Zones” -- There are 5 blue zones, and the people in these groups have 9 common traits, one of which is eating a plant-heavy diet. Slate = Originally wanted to go with “Blue Stone” (a nod to stones used to grind corn for tortillas), but the lawyers foresaw some potential copyright issues down the road. So we went with slate -- another kind of rock. Also, slate is a basic, simple, no-frill element and Blue Slate exists to provide essential, simple, clean food. It also has a strength to it, another aspect of our brand.
