the.wiz.of.wow. got their new logo & brand guide by running a design contest:
Create magical, psychedelic, feminine logo & branding for specialty coffee roaster

Food & Drink
Thirteen Specialty Beans sources, roasts, and sells unique, bright, fruit-forward specialty coffee in micro-lots (meaning, supply for any specific roast we sell is limited, possibly one-time only). Our ideal customers are "third wave" or specialty coffee nerds, and people who deeply value "quality over quantity", seeking to indulge themselves in the finer, high-quality versions of food, drink, clothing, etc. Think of the people who frequent your local, independent specialty coffee shops and hang out their laptops all day, or those who sneer upon Starbucks for being over-roasted and devoid of nuance. From a demographic perspective, given we're brand new I have no real insight here — but I'd hazard a guess at a relatively even mixture of male and female. Majority of the people I'll be marketing this coffee to will be relatively well-off, living in cities, with "progressive" jobs (freelancers, tech, online business owners, etc).
Other color requirements
#00F9F7 #004AAD #800020 #C7CEE2 (front & side colour of coffee bags being used) #000000 (back & side colour of coffee bags being used)
The bags I'll be using — at least for the first few roasts — are here, in the black & blue version (specific colour codes are listed above): https://dutchcoffeepack.com/stock-coffee-bags/50-50-coffee-bags-from-stock/ - (copy and paste into your browser) To give you more insight into the brand voice I'm trying to capture and cultivate, the mostly-finished version of the website copy is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ysuyAU6MrDEJM7WfVm9RI8tY_P79y9E52thNvW5t2V0/edit?usp=sharing - (copy and paste into your browser) Here are two businesses whose branding I love (for different reasons, as described below): https://www.formula1.com/ https://teonan.com/ What I like about the F1 branding is how clean and sophisticated the vibe is—which screams "excellence" to me. From Teonan, I love the psychedelic influence, weird and wackiness. ADDITIONAL DESIGN NOTES: 1. While 99designs doesn't have a 'psychedelic' option on the brand vibes, this is something I'd like to incorporate with subtlety. If you have personal experience with psychedelics, run wild with what you know. 2. I'd like to feature the number 13 prominently, as it's something I want to become synonymous with the brand. 3. This was a happy accident, but I've been enjoying the designs coming in that feature an eye. I'd like to make the eye a part of the logo moving forward, but I wanna get more specific. I'm of Greek heritage, and we have an "evil eye" (known as the "mati" that when worn is supposed to protect against misfortune, and is supposed to have some magical properties as well (very on brand). So I'd like to feature the mati as the eye. You can search "greek mati" to get a visual of what this eye looks like. The more psychedelic and ancient we can style the eye, the better. 4. In terms of colour and colour style, I'm leaning towards the softer, pastel-like, and blended colours. Feels much more psychedelic to me. FUTURE DESIGN PROJECTS: Once the branding for Thirteen Specialty Beans has been defined, I'll then need to create the following: 1. Design for custom packing tape 2. Design for custom mailer boxes 3. Stickers for the front of the coffee bags (with the 13B name and logo) 4. Stickers for the back of the coffee bags (with bean information, tasting notes, and brand story) 5. Possibly some postcard-size inserts with brewing information to go along with each bag of beans So, plenty of design work to come for the winner :)

And then… they selected a winner!
How many reviews must I leave for David and his work? The fact that this is my 3rd 5* review means I've hired him for 3 projects and keep coming back for more. Enough said.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
