Jake The Beard got their new landing page design by running a design contest:
Huge Site: Long Term Designer Wanted!
Check out Jake The Beard's Landing page design contest…
We help people with glasses to learn more about why they have myopia (nearsightedness), and how to prevent and reverse their myopia. It's cutting edge, evidence based, and also a bit fun and sarcastic. Huge community! Short story is that myopia is not genetic or an illness. Peer reviewed clinical science tells us that myopia is just first a focusing muscle strain - and then your eyes get "worse" because of the glasses you're being sold as "treatment"! Most people don't know this at all, but there are 50.000+ clinical study references in optometry journals showing clear evidence. Meanwhile a 100 billion dollar lens selling industry pretends they don't know, and just make you a "glasses subscriber". It's a crazy story, almost hard to believe, and we're here to educate people. Mainly to start questioning these things, where to find research, understanding whats going on. And also, myopia is completely reversible. Thousands are doing it, even though retail optometry really, really doesn't want you to even think about this.
Elements to include in the landing page
NOTE: The design of this page does not need to in any way at all reflect the existing design of endmyopia. In any way! At all! It's a very old site and old design. Just ignore it, pretend it doesn't exist at all. :) In fact we will hopefully replace much of the old design with cues of the new page you'll be designing (and ideally even work with you on further designs of more pages of the site in the future). See attached sketch and wireframe. Page is intended for new visitors (and potential podcast hosts we're contacting for interviews). We want to very quickly establish 1) that we have a credible and powerful solution, that a lot of people like and 2) address the main questions these new visitors have, very quickly. So the page design is focused on those two things. Starting with testimonials and viewer stats, leading into the main questions, and then some more "social proof" type of visual content. 1) Big testimonial. We have lot of them on our FB group. Thinking banner style. 2) Viewership stats highlights (see wireframe) 3) A few more, smaller testimonials 4) "What's wrong with my eyes" - the main question to answer. Short paragraph, visual, will lead people to a more detailed page. 5) "How'd this happen" - the next most common question. Same thing, short paragraph, links to more detailed page. 6) "How can i fix it" - same as above, basically addressing the main three things people want to know. 7) Some clinical science quotes. See endmyopia.org main page (three quotes there), need to find some way to make that prettier and fit the page. 8) A few logos from podcasts we've done. 9) Highlight reel of some of our Youtube videos 10) Links to our FB and forum communities Basic wireframe: https://endmyopia.org/le-home-page/ (also see attached sketch) - also may be worth including the banner content (not style though) from the existing home page at https://endmyopia.org as top part of the page (update - now included in the wireframe).
The challenge here might be to strike the balance of credible but also a bit fun, not too serious (we like stick figures to explain things!). We're not offering medical advice, but the topic is something people are used to being told by "doctors". So we don't want to look like too "shiny" or medical, but also relating that we do have serious answers.
