What do you have in mind for the style and theme of the landing page?
We want to have a clean design with white background that will fit with our product images (white background). We want to move away from using a lot of color block backgrounds for larger text on the site. We would like to see less variation in font sizing, more use of lines than blocks of color when navigating products. We would like to stay with our current logo color pallet, somewhat. No orange, please. Soft and dark blues, grays, the red on our website, are all great. We are open to creative suggestions that are outside our guidelines, understanding that our main objective is to create a design that is optimized for click through. We want to sell products. This page is navigational, so we want to see click through pretty quickly after a user first lands on the page. A lot of that will depend on our content, but we want to ensure that there are not a lot of visual distractions that make it difficult to decide what to look at or where to click.
Elements to include in the landing page
This page will be both navigational for our product catalog, and it will also be a flexible piece of marketing collateral on the website. This page will function as a template for our in-house marketing and data optimization teams.
Navigation and Header (current, no need to include in the design)
Promotional or Branding Image
"Store" (Page) Title
List of product categories (thumbnail, text link/title, sub-links)
Top picks from this store: product list with review stars
Block of website copy about this store.
Caregiver and buying guides for this store: list of articles
Featured brand from this store (title, text, link)
UPDATE: 4/5 10am EST: We are still accepting entries. Based on the current number of entries, this is still a very viable contest!
The attached storyboard is only an in-house mock up and not intended to direct design styles. We want to consider some creative suggestions for promotional images on the page (maybe even a custom designed image) which are thinner so the main content doesn't get pushed below the fold. It is very important that the navigational aspects of the page content begin above the fold. Also, keep in mind that we may or may not utilize some of the lower-priority page content, so the page real estate should be allotted based on understanding our need to make certain content visible or invisible.
We need this designed with the mindset that we will be utilizing Bootstrap for our front end framework. The design needs to have their grid options in mind. This will need to eventually translate into responsive design.
This project leads into a full site redesign. We are looking for a good long term relationship with one graphic designer. Meanwhile, this page will back into that redesign, so the interior page styling on this page can evolve from our current style. It will plug into our current header, footer and navigation. Then, it will plug into the new header, footer and navigation once the home page redesign is complete.
