We're a custom cookie bakery.

What is it that you think of when you think about Summertime? Take those thoughts and ideas and make them each into a design or illustration, and do that 9 times. This contest is to create a set of 9 cookies which we will use to produce a Summer-theme cookies set. We will bake sugar cookies, then put white icing on them. When the icing is dry, we will print your designs on them using high resolution edible ink, and then we package them and deliver them to our customers who usually purchase them for an event or as a gift to their friends or family. - Rather than us provide specifics of what each cookie should look like, we are leaving the creativity up to you. We ask that you become inspired with the topic before attempting your designs, and look around for inspiration. If you have an idea for a theme, make sure the master theme is Summertime but please do not get too caught up in a minor theme which distances from Summertime. For example, please do not submit all beach-themed cookies because the theme is Summertime. Or do not submit all fish-theme cookies, because the theme is Summertime. Meaning, please don't get caught straying from the big topic. We don't want our customers thinking, 'these are beautiful beach cookies', but rather, we want them saying 'these are fun and beautiful Summertime cookies'. For some more inspiration you can check Instagram for the tags #summercookies #summertimecookies, or similar. - We print in CMYK so please set your workspace to CMYK. We print in full color, except there is no white colored ink. So to deal with this, it works out well because before printing the edible ink colors on the cookies, we apply a liquid delicious white sugar icing which gets hard before printing. We do it to have an already-white surface to print on, it makes a good background and it tastes really good. - We will make custom cutters to cut your shapes. We want you to keep in mind some things about cookies and their shapes. If your design a cookie which has small protrusions, thin parts of the cookie that stick out, or thin internal areas, they will be too delicate and they will break during handling or during shipping. Make sure you create a sturdy cookie shape which will survive the handling and not be prone to breaking. - The edges of the cookies shape should not have very tiny, minor details. During your inspiration process, please look at photos of cookie cutters to get an idea of how detailed (or not) the edges are, because during baking the dough rises a little and little details go away, so cookie cutters do not go into so much tiny detail around edges. The designs can have such tiny details, but please do not carry the tiny details to the cookie outline. - It would be great if you submit a simulated product design, showing the designs on the cookies, and be sure to include that white icing background, so we can see what shape the cookie needs to be and so we can see what your design will look like on it. - In the final deliverable files, there should be an artboard without the cookie backgrounds, just with the graphics that we should use to print on them. Leave them layered in case we need to make small adjustments to elements. We will also need artboards with the cookie shape outline, so we can replicate your exact shapes when we create the cutters to cut out the cookies from sheets of rolled flat dough. - This is a custom-work-for-hire contest, so we expect fully original designs. Meaning, please do not use artwork you've obtained from another source. It needs to be created by you, it should feel like a set, and not feel like randomly collected artworks pieced together to make a set. - You may use text in some of the cookies if you desire, but if you will use a font and not draw the text by hand, please make sure the font is free for commercial use and if you win the contest, please provide the font during the files handover. - Good luck and thank you very much for your interest in our contest!
