About The Futures School: The Futures School is a global development platform whose mission is to democratize foresight. Through learning events, professional certification and other growth opportunities, TFS empowers individuals, institutions, organizations, and governments to adopt foresight as their 21st century operating system. Strategic Foresight is a practice that allows us to create functional views of alternative futures and possibilities. Through this process we are better prepared for potential threats and are able to capitalize on hidden opportunities. While no one can predict the future, foresight allows us to mine the external environment for trends and leverage those insights to create maps of the emerging landscape. These well informed maps of the future allow us to test our current strategy, develop breakthrough innovations and create transformative change. TFS programs are hands-on, interactive and project-based with participants collaborating with peers from outside their industry and subject matter expertise. The training includes tools and models as well as reusable templates. Our electronic newsletter - REFRAME magazine centers on a theme each month and we flip a problem to uncover an opportunity.
What's your vision?
Visual for an Electronic Newsletter We need a series of themed visuals. Each visual would have four "panels" that could be cropped for use independently. We would love to partner with the same artist for all 7 visuals, but will begin with commissioning just the first with this contest. The visuals would be used in our electronic newsletter as well as shared via social media. The theme for each visual would involve going from a negative idea to a positive one and we would want the visual to depict that transition, going from dark to colorful. These are science fiction themes and retro future in nature so a style that matches that would be preferred. Playing off the often dystopic visions society can have about our collective futures, we unpack one of these visions and tropes each month. This contest is for the first visual - the theme is from Zombie Apocalypse to Global Brain. The idea for this theme is that we can move from a dystopic vision of technology being all-consuming and "eating our brains" (Attention economy, screens - the zombification of society, algorithms, planning society - we don't have choice anymore, brain dead, video games) .... To a more utopic vision of using technology for global connectivity and collaboration "connecting our brains" (the billions of messages and pieces of information flying back and forth are linking the minds of humanity together into a single, global brain: a brain with astonishing potential for the Earth) to make the world a better place. This visual will need to have four clear "areas" that can be cropped to be used separately and should go from dark (on the left) to gradually more color until full color (on the right).
