We have a number of illustrations needed for a new reading comprehension web application targeted for fourth and fifth grade students in the United States.
Our goal is to start this contest with one design and to invite the winner (and possibly other top designers) into a 1-to-1 project for the rest of the required illustrations.
The first design needed is an illustration of an inside of a library. This illustration should be warm, inviting, and fun looking. Students will see this illustration after logging in, and they'll be able to click on different areas to enter different sections of our application.
The various, clickable areas that need to be shown are:
1) A Live Bookshelf, where students can open and read science books. Since this is the most important part of our system, it should be positioned in the middle of the illustration or some prominent place.
2) A Magazine Lounge, where students can read science-based magazine articles.
3) A Science Alive video section, where students can watch science videos.
Other non-clickable areas that could be included are typical things one might see in a library, such as posters, computers, a librarian desk, etc.
Also, adding labels to these areas, e.g., "Bookshelf", "Magazine Rack" (or "Magazine Lounge"), "Science Alive" (for the video area), and "Exit to Village" (or "Return to Village") would be very helpful.
Feel free to be creative, making the inside of the library look like a clubhouse, a playground, or whatever else you can imagine!
To further elaborate on the second paragraph, the next design (to be done in a 1-to-1 project, assuming all goes well with this contest) would be a small village. The outside of the library would appear at its center along with a few buildings that surround it. We will also need some simpler designs such as a larger magazine rack, a larger bookshelf with a few books on it, and a couple of other simpler illustrations.
