What's your vision?
I want to have a mural created. I have two sons (Sammy, age 6, and Ronan, age 4) and I want to create a large mural that I can have printed and placed on their wall. My intention is that they see themselves as heroes and are inspired by the greatness that I see within them. I want the pictures to be of them but what they'll look like when they're a little older (late teens, early 20s). They'll be two armored warriors looking off into the distance and towards an unknown but exciting future. I am VERY open to suggestion but here's the vision I have for this so far: They're facing an unseen enemy ( a shadow of some sort that exists mostly off screen) but not currently engaged in a fight. There are clouds in the foreground but light in the distance (fighting trials of today with a promise of peace in the future). They are confident but determined. They each have a visible wound that has healed but scarred. Sammy: the protector, explorer, scientist, healer, and comedian. Ronan: the adventurer, daredevil, warrior, leader, and lover. Their breastplate sigil is a Dragon/Phoenix hybrid. Dragons represent an amalgamation of all things fierce and they're born and raised in Phoenix. I really love the symbolism of the dragon because my sons have a very diverse heritage and Dragons are a combination of everything a small mammal would have been afraid of :-). So I'd like the sigil to be more dragon than phoenix but enough of the phoenix tied in (maybe just surrounded by fire). My wife is Palestinian so I'd like the Palestinian scarf on both of them. It doesn't need to be around their neck, just somewhere visible. Different location for each is fine. On my mother's side, we're related to Thomas Jefferson and her entire family since then has been "very" American. I'd love to work in a red/white/blue theme somewhere without being as obvious as having them wear the US flag as capes. Ronan carries a spy glass (sight) Sammy carries a map (goals, planning, foresight) Their swords are sheathed (this is a reference to Jordan Peterson's discussion about men who are capable of being violent but choose not to be) They both carry a shield (protectors) Ronan has a battle axe on his back Sammy has a bow and arrow on his back I would like to work in the olive tree as a symbol somewhere prominent, possibly on their shields? I'm open. It could be the hilt of their weapons as well. They have Christian and Muslim heritage so a very subtle cross and crescent moon is fine but we aren't a religious family so I don't want these symbols to be too prominent. I would also love to find a way to work in: Books (or something else to symbolize the persuit of knowledge) Paper & quil (or something else to symbolize a desire to record events and teach them to others). Our family's three most important values (in chronological order) are: Truth, Responsibility, Love I would like to find a way to work those into the mural somehow as well but am open to your creative input. Their hands should be dirty giving the impression that they do lots of hard work. On their Paulson (shoulder armor): Right side, paternal grandmother: England, France, Ireland, Hungary I think this will just be a four quadrant image with the symbols for each country Left side, paternal grandfather: Rajput, Punjabi, Pakistani Same thing but three quadrants I'd like the armor to be a mixture of the traditional European armor (since they have strong European heritage) but also incorporate their Arab and Rajput heritage as well with some relevant accents. I'd love your ideas and input! For size: I'd like it to be big. Maybe around 150cm wide x 120 cm tall but it doesn't have to be those exact proportions.
I am very hesitant to offer examples of art I like because I don't want to over-influence the piece or stifle any creativity. So, please know that I'm open to any direction that inspires you. However, I'm adding some images I found online that I like as references. The one caveat being, most of these are a little too dark. I'd like the mural to feel hopeful and inspiring, not depressing. I'm also attaching some images of my boys so you know what they look like. Here's a video as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHNTDbnsXUA
