Garrett99 got their new illustration or graphics by running a design contest:
I'm Garrett. I work for 99designs! I need a memorably creative tattoo!

Art & Design
So getting a tattoo is a huge deal. Sure there's laser surgery, but it's pretty permanent. This will be my first tattoo, and I've wanted it for a long time. Since I've worked for 99designs as a support rep, an account manager, and a sales guy, I know the importance of feedback in a contest and I intend to give plenty! If you are working on a design and need more time, let me know in the private feedback section! Communication is key.
What's your vision?
Okay, this is a ton of information, but I intend for this contest to draw serious designers who will take the time to get to know my brief and what I'm looking for. I figure in someways it's a really fun project, because I know what I want in terms of content, but I still am looking for a style of creativity that I wasn't even thinking about. THE MAIN DETAILS: -The tattoo needs to be a man pushing a boulder up the side of a mountain. That's the basic idea. -The tattoo will be on my side, under my arm. It can either be large and take up a good portion of the side, without going out too far onto my back or chest. Or it can be smaller and framed like the ship tattoo in the example. -The concept is based on the greek myth of Sisyphus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sisyphus -I am a fan of existentialist philosophy and the works of Albert Camus. He wrote an essay called the Myth of Sisyphus which has had a huge impact on my life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Myth_of_Sisyphus -That is what gives this idea so much meaning to me. I'm guaranteeing and extending this contest to be a 7 day qualifying round to give everyone plenty of time to get a well thought-out first draft. With time for revisions before the finals. Please let me know if you're working on something though so I have a sense of how many people are in (aside from just watching)! -I'm open to any type of styling. The key is to make sure it will translate to a real tattoo! I could see it either being very simple without shadows or detail, as long as it's slick or clever, I don't want it to look like I drew it (and I'm not very good at drawing). Or I could also see it being very detailed like a few of the examples below. I am so excited to see the various styles everyone will be submitting! -In terms of color, I want it to be black. I like the way some of the examples below have one element of color like the heart or the dress. But I'm a fan of subtlety. Think of the movie Pleasantville, starting at 1:08: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrEAfkY9ods EXAMPLES I'm also going to include some links so everyone can get a sense of the different styles that appeal to me: http://web.stagram.com/p/332823447004352620_185681891 http://web.stagram.com/p/384039814688510585_185681891 http://web.stagram.com/p/372739698958635335_185681891 http://web.stagram.com/p/356630579281498772_185681891 http://web.stagram.com/p/355114362318197126_185681891 http://faeriewings-skinnythings.tumblr.com/post/32382923203/who-else-wants-a-beautiful-haunting-scenery-piece http://pinterest.com/pin/85920305361847332/ http://pinterest.com/pin/257408934921623729/ http://pinterest.com/pin/52635889365575825/ http://ismellsickness.deviantart.com/art/not-so-new-tattoo-Linda-45807427
I plan on video taping the process while having the tattoo put on, I'm excited to share that with you and everyone I know. (I might even see if I can do a guest designer blog post based on this contest, no promises though). Please let me know if you have any questions! This is incredibly important to me, so I want to make sure I truly get a memorable, original, and personal tattoo. Thank you for taking the time to read this and working on my contest! TL;DR - a black tattoo of a guy pushing bolder up the mountain, going on my side. ****UPDATE*** I've uploaded a picture of my torso where the tattoo will be inked. Feel free to superimpose your design on top of it. I'm also adding images of art from my room to give you a sense of style of what I generally like.
