Community & Non-Profit
We are a grassroots educational non-profit focused on federal fiscal responsibility, talking about the debt, the deficit, why they're big and getting bigger, and why that matters to the American public.
What's your vision?
We want an infographic on the aging of the US population and its effect on the federal budget. Sample text that can accompany the graph is available in the "anything else" section below. Charts, graphs, icons are all welcome and familiar, but we encourage you to flex your data visualization muscles on this. The infographic will be used on social media outlets, so should be crisp at full-screen but does not need to be at print resolution. The attached files include 3 infographics we've put out in the past, the History and Future of the Debt one being the most successful. Aesthetic inspiration for that one came from the documentary IOUSA. We like that style and welcome more of it, but we don't have a specific aesthetic in mind and encourage you to be creative. This is a non-partisan piece, so avoid anything that comes across as specifically political (e.g. no donkeys, no elephants, no stark red/blue divides). Similarly we'd discourage anything particularly offensive to any one particular group (no raging grannies, no kids giving the finger).
The result should be delivered as a .xcf or similar format so we can make final tweaks and edits using GIMP. Below is text describing the infographic. This is language we are comfortable using on the graphic itself, but we invite you to be creative in how and how much to incorporate. The amount of money spent by the federal government on senior citizens is greater than spending for any other demographic. These programs are paid for by tax revenue from working age Americans and have been sustainable in past years. The number of elderly is projected to rise dramatically with the aging of the baby boom generation -- a shift that is expected to outlast the baby boomers themselves. This will lead to more retirees relative to workers, altering the ratio of taxpayers to beneficiaries in a way that will put strain on the federal budget. Medicare will be under additional strain since older individuals incur more health care costs. Federal programs that support seniors, and the taxes required to pay for those programs, must be modernized if they are going to remain solvent for future generations.
