The Australia Institute is the country’s most influential progressive think tank. Based in Canberra, it conducts research on a broad range of economic, social and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.

**NOTE** The design brief has now been changed. Please read the comment in the feedback to all designers. The information below is still needed but the way it is presented will now be different. Thanks The aim of this graphic is to put Australia's action on climate change into a global context. The title of the graphic should be something like 'Aussie coal busts action on climate change'. The first part of the graphic is about how Australia supports coal miners. The key facts of this part are: - Australian government mining subsidies:$4.5b/year - State government mining subsidies: $18b over 6 years. The $ figures should really stand out. One idea is to have these figures imposed over a map of Australia or just above a map of Australia. We then want the state of Qld to come out of the map and a fact about emissions from one mine in Qld to be stated. There should be a line over Qld that says: 'One mine, the Carmichael mine, will release more emissions than Sweden, Norway and Denmark combined'. The words 'one mine' and 'more emissions' should be made larger. Beneath this we want a section on what other countries are doing to tackle climate change. There should be a subheading that says 'Global Action'. These are the key points to be illustrated in this section: China: Investing in low-carbon energy and planning a national emissions trading scheme. EU: Target of 40% emissions reduction and 27% renewable energy target by 2030 US: Target of 30% emissions reduction in power sector by 2030. Finally the bottom section will be a quote from Prime Minister Tony Abbott. There should be a line that says 'What does the Australian Prime Minister say...' There should then be a quote that says "I can think of few things more damaging to our future [than leaving coal in the ground]". It is important that the graphic is not just dot points of all the information above. it should be illustrated so it tells an interesting story.
We would like the graphic to be A4 size please. To see examples of past graphics that the Australia Institute has done see our tumblr page: http://australiainstitute.tumblr.com/
