RCh59 did a fantastic job, and we are really happy with the character he designed. We will work with him again in the future if the opportunity arises.

Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Ace in the whole is a food blog dedicated to recipes and eating using only whole foods. What does this mean you ask? Per dictionary.com "whole foods are foods that has been processed or refined as little as possible and is free from additives or other artificial substances." In other words, a whole food is a food whose ingredient list is simply itself. For example...an apple..an orange...a hunk of beef. Our goal is to share recipes and ideas centered around using whole foods with as little processed ingredients as humanly possible (such as store bought sauces, premixed seasoning packets, almost anything in a plastic bag, can or box with a list of ingredients you cant pronounce). As to the name of the blog, it has some personal meaning. My name is Jason, but my grandma always called me "Ace" because i was her first grandchild. Obviously "Ace in the hole" is a term you're probably familiar with from poker, I also happen to enjoy a bit of gambling/risk taking myself. Typically an "ace in the hole" is viewed as your secret winning card. I view my food blog in somewhat the same manner...if you follow eating tips and recipes I provide, it will be your secret weapon to unlocking a healthier you.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I'm looking for a logo that is hand drawn with a caricature of myself and preferably hand drawn lettering that says "Ace in the Whole" (although I'm open to the idea of using fonts instead of handcrafted lettering). Emphasis should probably be on the word "Ace", with "in the whole" being a tag line of sorts, but I'm open to creative interpretation on this as well. I want something truly unique and something that conveys not only myself and personality but what my site is about. Important Note: Logo/Design MUST look good at small sizes online, will typically be viewed around 470x170px on my website, and also as a Facebook profile image. I may also use it for larger formats, but this will be the primary usage. One concept I had in mind was a caricature of me, looking like a mix of chef/poker player of sorts, with a handful of cards fanned out in front of me...but instead of cards, I could be holding whole foods. Perhaps another take on this would be holding actual cards and adding images of whole foods to the card backs or something of that nature. I also think that somewhere in there I should be holding out an "Ace", perhaps with the suit being some kind of fruit or vegetable that looks similar to a spade, heart, club or diamond. I would also like the idea of cooking/chef to be conveyed in the look of the character..whether this means wearing a chef hat or apron, or some other creative idea is up to you. I think the caricature should have a mix of "chef" and "poker player/gambler" feel to it, with chef being the primary characteristic to convey. Bonus points if you can find a way to fit a caricature representation of my kids/wife into the graphic - this is a secondary goal, my primary goal being to create a graphic of myself as described above :) Double bonus if you create a graphic or provide a texture that could be used as a wallpaper on my website (something clean that matches style wise with your illustration) (Image attached for reference to show what I look like as well as my kids/wife - my wifes hair is about shoulder length).
IMPORTANT: I am creating my blog on the foodie pro template in Wordpress. By default this template allows a 470x170 px logo at the top. The winning design MUST display clearly and cleanly at this size. View this link to see the layout and how a logo of this size looks: http://shaybocks.com/configure-logo…die-theme/
I Added an image of an Irishman to the attachments to show an example of a style that I like. Stylistically this appeals to me, but I am open to various other styles as well. One of the key points here being the lack of detail in the face...I'd like a character in my own likeness, but not a photocopy/filtered version of myself.
