Located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) Institut oceanographique de Bedford (IOB) is Canada’s largest centre for ocean research, comprised of more than 600 employees from six federal government departments. Over 4 days, from September 21st to 24, BIO will celebrate its 55th year by welcoming approximately 20,000 people to explore more than 70 exhibits and interact with employees from a number of federal departments and partners dedicated to maintaining healthy oceans and safe and accessible waterways. Occurring every 5 years, BIO Expo 2017 is the 10th such event and coincides with Canada’s 150th birthday. As well, Fisheries and Oceans Canada will celebrate its 150th anniversary and the Geological Survey of Canada celebrates its 175th. In honor of these celebrations, BIO will pay tribute during the BIO Expo 2017 with the theme of Route 150: Follow Atlantic Canada’s marine and coastal legacy as we sail towards a new horizon. To kick off the Expo 2017 celebrations, we asked school aged children to submit a design that would inspire a final logo to accompany the Expo celebrations. We selected a short list of submissions and we agreed that the “message in a bottle” theme was both unique and symbolic of the work that we do at the institute. What we require is a marine themed graphic illustration/logo incorporating the text BIO/IOB, Expo 2017 and Route 150. Could you please help us develop a logo that will both highlight our historical legacy and our vision of sustainable oceans.
