Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
I am a pianist and film composer. This particular album called "Memories" is a collection of 10 original solo piano songs. Each song is very moving. I'm told I have a very unique style of playing and write very "beautiful" melodies. The track names in order of appearance on the album are as follows:
My Soul Weeps
How I Loved You
No More Games
Each song can stand alone on its on, but the particular progression takes the listener through an emotional flow that begins with a tremendous loss (I played "My Soul Weeps" live at my father's funeral on a grand piano)... to "Two Roads" which is very fitting for a film. "Two Roads" is haunting melody about a person at a crossroads during a very difficult time. When "Awakening" plays the listener is starting to be led from a dark place toward light. "New Day" is the beginning of a fresh start. "Soaring" is a powerful song that starts to inspire motivation and strength. "How I loved You" reflects back on loss (the loss of my father and the loss of my girlfriend), but with the comfort of time having passed. "No More Games" offers the listener relief from the emotional songs previously heard with a laid back jazz like blues song. It basically represents moving forward and not making excuses by dwelling on the past. "Hope" inspires future change for a brighter tomorrow and better days ahead. "Memories" which the album is named after evokes nostalgic feelings very much like the Beatles "In My LIfe" or Simon & Garfunkel's "Bookends." The final song, "Rain," is a very simple melodic song that evokes an emotional release and cleansing to bookend the entire album.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I need a CD cover for my solo piano album, "Memories." "David J" is my stage name. I'm envisioning a simple cover design with a lot of space around the image or images. The overall emotional theme should evoke emotional feelings of nostalgia, wistfulness, longing, etc. Please don't take this next sentence too literally, but it could be as simple as a leaf falling from a tree, or a childhood toy that evokes these feelings, or some kind of a forgotten object left behind... to be found later, etc. I'm not married to any particular image as mentioned above... just the emotional feel. I don't envision a complex or busy design. I'm open to the cover looking real like a photo or being abstract and artistic... whichever makes the listener feel wistful, nostalgic, and pensive upon looking at the album. It should inspire these types of feelings from the colors, textures, and images.
All 10 songs are recorded and I have MP3 files to share. It doesn't appear that 99Designs allows for this type of file to be uploaded, though. I could Dropbox the MP3 files if helpful. Some people say my songs remind them of George Winston albums. Yiruma's "River Flows In You" sounds like a song that could be on my album, "Memories," for reference (See YouTube). It's a similar style of play.
