This artwork should encompass the values of democratic and self-governing education where adults and children have equal status. The educational community is governed by meetings in which everyone (adults and children, teachers and students) has an equal vote. The meetings help emphasize the distinction between freedom and license for the children. The philosophy is to allow freedom for the individual by letting each child take their own path in life, and following their own interests to develop into the person that they personally feel that they are meant to be. The result is inner self-confidence and genuine acceptance of themselves as individuals. Through the community aspect, children learn to compromise, communicate, negotiate and assume responsibility. It also teaches them empathy and a consideration for the feelings of others.
