What's your vision?
I'm looking for an illustration to be used as a book cover for a dark twist on Wizard of Oz. It *must* be PG13. In this version of the story, Dorothy is a college student, country girl, tomboy. Toto is a Rottweiler. The tin-man is a 10 foot (approx 3 meters) tall - think Terminator robot combined with steam engine and a knight's suit of armour. He carries a huge axe called sun-seeker. The scarecrow is a wizard who was turned into a man of straw. He uses a pitchfork as his wizard's wand/staff. He has a sackcloth face... a true combination of wizard and scarecrow. The Lion is half-man, half-lion, like a werewolf. Once a king, now a gladiator.
The illustration MUST have Dorothy. She is a country tomboy who goes to college. She has long hair that can be put in pigtails or ponytails or in a hat. Think Flannel Shirt with jeans or cut offs (remember, PG13) and boots. Other characters are optional but encouraged. This is a dark book where the witch uses demons, vampires and zombies to keep Emerald City under her control. Something like Army of Darkness goes to Oz or The Crow. Including some concept images to give you some ideas. Here is a summary for the story to give you a better idea: Life was going downward quickly for Dorothy Cline. Between the recent death of her father, struggling with college and working at her aunt’s failing restaurant, things were just spiraling out of control. Her family is visited by the town’s bank president, an evil witch of a woman, and was threatened of losing their business. Outraged, she goes to see her fiance hoping they could use their wedding savings to save her aunt’s business but finds him with another woman. In the heat of anger, she steals his ‘98 ford F250 and, with her totweiller, Conan, fly down a Kansas dirt road. She has no idea what to do and her world here is now crumbling around her. A huge twister crosses the road throwing the truck into the air. Dorothy passed out. When she wakes, she finds herself in a magical but dark land. Now in a new world, she must find a wizard who can send her home. Along the way, she rescues the “Scareman” a wizard who was turned to straw like a scarecrow who at one time lived with the witch. His intelligence is legendary, but he has a reputation of sadistic behavior. He claims he can send her home if they can get his book back from the witch. He also claims he sent the twister that brought her to their dreary grey rain filled world. Everyone hates this straw wizard and calls him a liar. They believe he made it rain for days and cost the world its freedoms. He said it was the witch. Dorothy has no choice if she wants to go home, and with her lighter in hand she says she will help the straw magic wielding liar get his book if he promises to send her home. She also saved Achellies Swift Ax, A Giant Iron robot, rusted in the forest of the damned. He led his army of steam powered Iron soldiers into a war against the witch, zombies and her evil trees. The witch, using the Scareman’s book, caused a great rainstorm which rusted the soldiers during the 7 days of darkness. The iron soldiers, humans and dwarves were slaughtered. Achellies was marked a failure and imprisoned on a pedestal in the middle of the forest battlefield like a great statue. Wrapped in chains and coated in rust, he is still alive with only enough power the power to open his eyes and see his failure that day. He is surrounded by dead trees, and the remains of his companions. They say he had more heart than 100 dwarves and it broke that day to the witch. The Scareman is deathly afraid of Achellies and for good reason. He does not trust him and still believes he made it rain causing his loss of the war and of the world. Last, but not least, she meets Leo the Conqueror, a legendary king now gladiator who once imprisoned by the witch was her slave. He did not join them in the battle against the witch even though he had a treaty with the dwarves for 3 generations. It was not that he was cowardly, he was lazy and thought why should he risk his neck and his lands for these iron machines and humans. His land fell several months later to the witches zombie demon horde. He escaped the witches arena and fled into the woods where he leads his one man vigilante brigade against the witch and her forces. Still bitter by his loss of his kingdom, but he knows it was his fault and he let his ego get the best of him and his decisions. Together this rag tag group must overcome their differences, past and present, Retrieve the book, kill the witch and find a way to send Dorothy home. Maybe they can save both worlds.
