NIVEA is a global brand with hundreds of beauty and body care products. Its most famous product is the NIVEA Creme in its iconic blue and round tin. In 1911, the NIVEA Creme was launched in the Swiss market. The snow-white color of the cream gave the world-famous NIVEA brand its name (as "nives" means "white" in Latin) and the cream's formula has been unchanged since its launch. The lid was designed in an Art Nouveau style, indicating a new era in body-care for everyone and for every day. Since then, the NIVEA Creme has become part of Swiss family life. The iconic blue tin of the NIVEA Creme was invented in 1928 and has remained unchanged since its relaunch in 1970. Today it is one of the most known and iconic products worldwide. Traditionally there is a tight connection between the snow-white NIVEA Creme and Switzerland in product design and advertising. What's your vision?
We want you to create an attractive, limited-edition lid design for the legendary blue NIVEA Creme round tin to celebrate its 110th anniversary on the Swiss market! What's your favorite part about Switzerland? Your design should incorporate an aspect of Swiss culture that goes beyond the more touristic clichés (there's more to Switzerland than the Matterhorn!). Themes can include: • Nature (Swiss mountains, Rhein Falls, Val Verzasca, etc) • Technology (trains, watches, etc) • The uniqueness of different Swiss cities and towns • Famous architecture • Swiss art and design • Swiss food (from the more famous Fondue and Raclette to regional specialities like Bündner Gerstensuppe or Basler Leckerli) Check out this Pinterest board for more Swiss ideas: https://www.pinterest.com/99designs/nivea-creme-swiss-anniversary-inspiration-board/ The connection between your design and Switzerland is very important. As always, please be sure to explain your design submission in the description. To make your design a real NIVEA design... • 70% of your design should be in blue tones (any blue), thereof 40% in NIVEA Blue (CMYK 0.746, 0.664, 0, 0474 / RGB 34 45 134 / Hex #222d86) • 30% can be in other colours • the Nivea Creme logo has to be in white • The small rim of the lid (circle around your design) has to be in Nivea blue However, because this is a LIMITED EDITION design, there is the opportunity to be a bit more flexible and working with ADDITIONAL COLORS is explicitly encouraged to create a LIMITED EDITION that clearly STANDS OUT against the regular NIVEA Creme. — ABOUT THIS COMPETITION • Each winner will receive a $1,424 prize • A NIVEA jury will select 12 designs to move to the final round • Winning designs will be chosen through a public vote • Winning designers will be featured on NIVEA Switzerland’s social media channels • NIVEA Switzerland will select up to 4 of the winning designs to go into production and be sold all across Switzerland for next year's anniversary celebration
WHAT TO INCLUDE • Create an original design for the lid of the 150ml NIVEA Creme tin • Please ONLY use the template provided to show your proposal and keep the background white • Make a strong visual connection to Switzerland — WHAT TO AVOID • The size, position and white color of the NIVEA Creme logo cannot be changed. • Only design the top surface of the lid. The sides and the bottom of the tin will remain NIVEA Blue. • Do not include any additional text • Do not use any 3rd party material or designs that you have used for previous companies or products. • Touristic clichés of Switzerland — DELIVERABLES a) To make it a real NIVEA design: • 70% of your design should be in blue tones (any blue), thereof 40% in NIVEA Blue (CMYK 0.746, 0.664, 0, 0474 / RGB 34 45 134 / Hex #222d86) • 30% can be in other colours • the Nivea Creme logo has to be in white • The small rim of the lid (circle around your design) has to be in Nivea blue b) Presentation Format: • Please use the template provided c) All 12 finalists must share their open files during the Finalist Round, to check if they are fitting the printing requirements, as the production deadlines are quite short, there has be a check-up before. If your finalist design is not chosen as winning design, the open files of the design will not be used in any way by Nivea. All files must be: • Print-ready and set up for 5 printing colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, and NIVEA Blue (NIVEA Blue (Pantone 2748 C / CMYK100 86 0 35)) • Additional colours or special prints (such as metallic prints or embossments) are NOT possible. • Open AI (Adobe Illustrator) files. All fonts must be converted into paths/curves. d) By uploading your idea you agree to provide additional information about yourself and your design that may be featured on NIVEA's social media channels: • the concept behind your design • a high res photo of yourself • a short description about yourself and your personal connection to Switzerland and the NIVEA Creme
