Crosslinking effect on Protease

This illustration is for a medical device company with Doctors being the primary audience, patients being the secondary audience. Ideally I'm looking for an artist with a chemical/biological background to help explain the process of collagen cross-linking and how it stabilizes collagen tissue to protect against degradation.

The difference between a crosslinked and uncrosslinked collagen triple helix. 1. 2 parallel un-crosslinked collagen triple helix strands with a-chains at random intervals on each strand. 2. 2 parallel crosslinked collagen triple helix strands with a-chains cocooned by crosslink and squiggly hair connecting the 2 collagen strands. 3. 2 parallel un-crosslinked triple helix strands being attacked and broken down by Protease (ugly packman). Protease attack the a-chains which breaks the structure and it falls apart. 4. 2 parallel crosslinked triple helix strands repelling Protease. The crosslinking cocoon repels the protease from attacking. See the crosslinking illustration.7.16.jpg attached (apologies for the crudeness, I'm not an artist).
