kickstarting a rhyming children's book (that also appeals to adults) about a dog and an owl.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
a baby owl has fallen out of his nest and is buried in a snow bank. a "helpful" dog is peeing on him to melt the snow. the owl is not amused.
the dog - mischievous, wise, sort of a zen master...but with a dumb face. the kind of dog that people would think is bad or scary from looking at him but is a real sweetheart on the inside. for the breed: gordon setter. big strong and goofy and prone to wandering off in random directions following a scent...
the owl - very young (so he's got fluff, not feathers) with exceedingly angry eyes. he's two weeks old and already bitter for life. he's outraged at the dog, but too little to do anything about it. kind of like chicken little from the foghorn leghorn cartoons in the sense of he's an angry jerk but so physically adorable and precious you can't help but like him.
note: in the poem only the owl's legs are sticking out of the snow...so if it's tough to draw both the characters in this position you could draw them snuggled up next to each other or something similar.
i've had excellent feedback on the poem itself, and people telling me i should do this for a while, so if your style meshes with my words i'd love to hire you to do the other 20 or so pages.
