The Australia Institute is the country’s most influential progressive think tank. Based in Canberra, it conducts research on a broad range of economic, social and environmental issues in order to inform public debate and bring greater accountability to the democratic process.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
The aim of this graphic is to show how much money we give away to wealthy Australians through superannuation tax concessions. Everyone talks about how good the mining boom was for Australia’s economy so we are comparing the revenue that we got from a year’s worth of mining boom revenue to superannuation tax concessions.
The main stat for this graphic is that it takes us only 6 months to give away a years worth of mining boom revenue through superannuation tax concessions.
In other words, through super tax concessions, we will have officially given away the money we collected from mining last year on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at 06:43 AM !
This graphic should have three main components.
A heading ‘Giving away a mining boom to the rich’.
A graphic that includes either the line about giving away the mining boom in 6 months or the line that has the July 2015 date in it. That is just two ways to represent the same data.
It is important that a graphic is used as well to make it interesting.
I have a few ideas but I would also love to see some original ideas. Potential ideas are:
- An image that represents us handing mining money to the rich while the rest of Australia misses out (maybe have schools/hospitals to represent the rest of Australia)
- Using an image of a calender to represent the date by which we give away all the money.
I would love to see some other options as well.
You should also leave space for a closing line which we haven’t decided on yet.
I'm looking forward to seeing your designs.
