I am Sam in London

Entertainment & The Arts
The product is a children’s picture book that educates readers (ages 8-12) about cultural differences in London. The main character, Sam, has moved with his family from Los Angeles to London, where he is starting “Year Five” (fourth grade).
What's your vision?
I would like a full-color illustration of two fourth-grade children eating lunch in a school cafeteria. The boy, Sam, is 9 years old. Please see attached a photo of the child this character is based upon. He is wearing a school uniform: navy blue polo shirt and navy pants. The pants are two sizes too big. He is wearing a belt to keep the pants up. The girl, Mika, is of Japanese descent. Her hair is cut in a short bob. She is wearing a navy polo shirt and a navy skirt with tights underneath. It's important that she's depicted as a Japanese girl with English-style. She has an english accent and is trendy in style even though she wears a uniform. Maybe, her style is shown through a cool pair of shoes or jewlery. The context of the scene: This is his first day at a new school in not just a new city (London), but a different country. It’s not going so well. His uniform pants are two sizes too big, and he has made some embarrassing cultural mistakes. He is, however, excited to eat lunch because Shepherd’s Pie is on the menu, and in the United States, no school would ever serve pie for lunch. He is disappointed to learn that Shepherd’s Pie is a meat, potato, and vegetable “pie.” He is sitting alone, sad about the day, when Mika sits next to him. She couldn’t be more friendly and talkative. In fact, she talks so much that Sam cannot get a word in edgewise. He likes her, but he’s astonished by how much she talks.
Please see the attached images of the children’s book series Charlie and Lola. This is the style I like and would like you to use as inspiration. What I like about it is that it gears to an older audience. I also like that Charlie and Lola are hip and relatable, yet they also seem timeless. I would like my main character to also have a signature look, though this will be difficult as he sometimes wears a uniform and will also be playing sports.
