Cinnamade Studio got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Mobile app icon for chore tracking/roommate app called Porchswing to appeal to Gen Z
Check out Cinnamade Studio's Icon or button contest…
Porchswing is a mobile app that helps roommates live well together through daily chore tracking, a leaderboard for some friendly competition, mutually agreed upon house guidelines, and discounts on cool products and services to make living together even more enjoyable. The target audience is young people ages 18-25ish who are living with roommates.
What's your vision?
I am looking for a mobile app icon to be used for my Porchswing app on both iOS and Android (the icon you see in the app store/on your phone's homescreen). Guidelines include: - Includes some visual representation of a porchswing. I've already explored tons of icon libraries/stock icons with porchswings and haven't been happy with them, so I'm looking for a new interpretation and some creative solutioning for how to make a porchswing icon recognizable and modern. - Should be modern and relatively simple without a lot of small details or flourishes. I think these app icons embody the vibe I'm going for: Peloton, AirBnB, Robinhood, Apple News. I like the simple colors and primary mark that can more or less stand alone and is quickly identifiable. - I would ideally like for the icon to not connect to the edges of the icon frame (aka try to avoid connecting the porchswing ropes to the top of the icon frame as if it's swinging) - I would love to see not only options where the porchswing is front-facing, but also options where it's sort of swinging/in motion/at an angle - I'd be really interested to see if the icon could incorporate a house and porchswing (maybe through the use of negative space?) - just an idea - I don't want to use the word Porchswing in the app, but am open to exploring using the letter P as part of the design. - Should use primary green brand color #00C8A3 (I'm attaching a guide on the shades and hues and some base colors for reference as well). My gut instinct is to have a white icon on the primary green color because it seems like it will pop the most, but I am open to other options as well. - I like creative uses of negative space. - For some background, I am hoping to be able to use the app icon as a starting point for the brand logo for my MVP (yes I realize I'm sort of doing this backwards). - Because of the above, I will likely favor options that can also be easily transformed into a single color/black and white version (for future design/branding considerations). - My app design doesn't use gradients, but I'm not entirely opposed to the use of a subtle gradient in the app icon. - My app design uses rounded edges for things like containers and cards (typically a 5px border radius), so I'd prefer the icon elements also have a more rounded edge. - I would use the following adjectives to describe my products/general vibe: upbeat, playful, casual, friendly
