iOS transcribed-voice messaging app icon design
Check out voicemessagingapp's Icon or button contest…
This is a messaging app that does the following: 1: Record your voice to make a message that is sent live. 2: The voice is transcribed into text while you're talking and/or after you finish talking. A background color is shown on a word to indicate the accuracy confidence level of the transcription -- red line through middle of words for under 45%, pink for 45% to 60%, red for 60%'s, yellow for 70%'s, green for 80%'s, gray for some of 90%'s, and clear for above a certain percentage such as 97% or above. 3: The recipient can tap to play the message, and the audio will play, and each word will be underlined/highlighted when that word is played. This logo is to be used as the app icon and the splash screen on the loading of the iOS app.
What's your vision?
Here's a version that I made, and please make a logo that incorporates these ideas. I'm looking for a design that improves upon the design that I have: 1: Compared to the version that I made and attached, please significantly simplify the logo -- my version is far too complex, including because I have too may rectangles, too many colors, distracting to use border colors, etc. 2: Show a microphone, such as simply the shape of a microphone. 3: Show rectangles inside with different color shades of red/yellow/green/gray/clear to indicate the confidence level. Those rectangles can also appear similar to a microphone. 4: Please indicate one of the word rectangles as underlined and highlighted in some way, as I did with the gray word. Reason is that the app plays audio of the recorded message, and highlights each word when it is said. 5: The oval microphone recording part should both be in the shape and context of a microphone, but also look like a speech bubble that includes rectangles representing the different words inside.
--Please make the app icon as the dimensions of a square. --Please provide the vector format such as SVG or EPS. (Optionally, please provide the logo in the Sketch file 'iOS App Icon' template.) About using colors: --Please try these hex colors attached: green = 4CA664, yellow = F7C23F, red = CC4846. These are the colors I'm using in the app for the background on word confidence. --So I think gray/green/yellow/red are enough colors to use. If you do for some reason want to try one more color, then this is the pink used at around 42% opacity on a FFFFFF background for word confidence 45% to 60%: pink = FFC0CB. --And for 2 grays to use such as elsewhere in the icon: darker gray = 75706B, lighter gray = D1D5D8. These are two grays that are used throughout the app. Or, please use the color that you think makes sense to use. --Or, please let me know if you suggest using a different color, such as something slightly or a bit different from that. --1: And please try about 50% opacity of those colors for each on a FFFFFF background; 2: Or about 20% opacity of these colors on a FFFFFF background; 3: Or a range of 20% to 50% opacity of these colors on a FFFFFF background. That is because that is about what those colors actually show up as because I have some base opacity for each color and then some difference based on the exact percentage in the 60s/70s/80s/etc, and whether the transcribed text has been reviewed as correct. --And please try changing to a different opacity for each of green/yellow/red to figure out which opacity you think makes sense to use, given that some color may otherwise appear more prominent than another and so may make sense to adjust the opacity so the three colors fit together better. On deciding colors: --Attached are some examples showing how the background colors are shown for word confidence with examples from the app transcribing voice -- and that also includes on that shows an underline/semibolded word to indicate that word is playing. Note that there are many words with no background colors because the word confidence is higher than 97%. --And so I think an open question in deciding colors -- such as in the case of showing 2 to 4 rectangles per row on a microphone with the rectangles being a simplified version of representing transcribed words -- is about how to decide the colors to reflect what colors may actually appear in the app. Note that for my icon, I decided to use mostly gray because to indicate mid-90s confidence levels for most words, and then use green more because words with 80% confidence can be more likely to appear than 70% confidence, and so on.
