bitspherical got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Icon for Whippo: Location Sharing App, Android and iOS
Check out bitspherical's Icon or button contest…
Whether you are a regular in a crowded area or a visitor in an unfamiliar place, Whippo allows you to find your friends wherever you are. Easily share your location with family and friends with great accuracy. Give and receive detailed directions to your friends' location by the touch of a button. Our maps virtually walk you through your trip and provide a vibration alert when nearing your destination. This app will be most helpful in places with large crowds such as tailgates, concerts, large parties, and festivals. The target audience skews younger, mainly college students. Nevertheless, it will be used by people of all ages.
What's your vision?
I'm looking for an elegant, charming, premium, simplistic, minimal icon for use in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Minor variations are needed between the two to make it fit with the particular store. Since our app has to do with location sharing, we want to incorporate a pin into our icon. Ideally, the pin should be stylistically designed to personify a whale, though not necessary. We would like a colored background with a white pin/object. Outlines of pins, whales, and hippos are okay. We want to have the final version as an Illustrator file.
We have provided a couple of app icon designs that we like in order to assist you in your designs. Again, we'd like to emphasize that we want the main icon to be a location pin in the shape of a whale so that people can tell our app Whippo deals with location sharing just by simply looking at the icon. We have provided some of the many design variations that we would like to see in the icon.

Alexey is a master flat icon designer. Not only does he have superb design capabilities, but also the ability to analyze and visualize difficult concepts. He helped us develop the concepts for a set of icons for a social study, which is difficult. He then developed variations of these icons, much more than we hoped for. The finished icons turned out to be pieces of art. Highly recommended!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
