This app is for Radiologists. It is called "Radiologist's Best Friend" or "Rads Best" for short.
Radiologists are physicians who are specially trained to interpret Xrays, CT scans, MRIs, and Ultrasounds and come up with a diagnosis or possible diagnoses. Part of their job is to make recommendations for further care or further diagnostic tests.
You can think of the application as a decision calculator. The doctor only has to click a handful of choices to get a recommendation that they can put into their report.
To get an idea of what the application will eventually look like, you can check out a web prototype at:
When you click around the web prototype you will notice the "superflat" aesthetic and the color scheme. The icon itself does not need to be superflat, however, ideally I would like to incorporate some of the color scheme to bring some uniformity. Here are the hex codes for the colors used in the app (Blue: #71a9f8; Orange: #ffd785; various shades of gray...note you don't have to use only these colors).
As far as the icon is concerned, I am open to any new and fresh ideas but let me give you an idea of what I am thinking. I'd like to incorporate a dog as a play on words from the title of the app and "Man's best friend"...I've attached a few photos below. The sketch is one thought I had. The silhouette of the dog's head looks nice and may look nice if made to look like an xray (please don't use this actual silhouette as I don't have the rights). I also attached a photo of something that looks like an xray of the hands to show that the "xray" effect doesn't have to be black and white. In fact, I would like to stay away from a Black and White xray as it feels very cold. I would prefer a colorful icon that feels good to open and look at on your phone. Perhaps the bone part of the xray could be white and the soft tissues can be orange. You may want to incorporate the "radio button" into background somewhere as it is a major feature of the application (the user selects radio buttons to navigate the app).
Here are some other important points:
-There are a lot of blue/white icons on app store already so would prefer if that isn't the main color scheme.
-Nothing too "cartoony"
-Although we are incorporating a schematic xray of a dog, be careful that it doesn't look morbid.
-Keep it professional looking. While I want users to get a positive light feeling from the app, it is still used for serious purposes and user needs to feel that it is "trustworthy".
-Keep it simple.
-If you think better, you can include the initals "R" or "RB" in the icon but my gut feeling says to stay away from this.
-Please take a look at the following post about app icon design best practices:
-Also, please take a look at these icons to get an idea of what is possible:
-layered psd file
-1028 x 1028 pixels
-NO gloss or shine effect
