fred_delse got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Design an app icon for Zebric, an innovative education platform
Check out fred_delse's Icon or button contest…
Zebric is a phone and tablet application that enables middle and high school students to capture and upload their work in mixed media (photos, videos, Google docs, Microsoft docs, web links, etc.), tag their work with set learning goals (public speaking, teamwork, probability, scientific writing, etc.), and reflect on their learning progress. They will do this by making posts to their feed. Teachers will then get a feed of their students' work and reflection and can give coaching and feedback on each post and confirm or adjust progress on learning goals in the app. Ultimately, students will be able to curate their posts into a digital portfolio at the end of the semester. The primary users will be American middle and high school students and their teachers. Teachers and administrators will be the purchasers. Therefore, we need iconography that will be relevant and attractive to students without turning off teachers and administrators. The name Zebric comes from the words "easy" and "rubric." A grading rubric is a tool teachers use to communicate expectations about each learning goal and to set standards for evaluation.
What's your vision?
We need app iconography for the iOS and Google Play platforms. In our understanding, this means: For Apple: Format: PNG Color space: sRGB or P3 Layers: Flattened with no transparency Shape: Square with no rounded corners Resolutions : 180x180, 120x120, 167x167, 152x152, 1024x1024, 80x80, 87x87, 58x58, 60x60, 40x40 For Google: Format: 32-bit PNG (with alpha) Resolution: 512x512 We ultimately just need one final icon scaled to each of these sizes to look good. We'd also like the vector file you used so we can create scaled versions in the future if necessary. We prefer visually flat, simple, clean designs ala most of the current Apple and Google iconography with few colors and no/limited gradient. The ideal icon would look cool and attractive to a student while being unoffensive to a teacher or administrator. Please no designs with a prominent letter "Z".
Some concepts that might help your creative juices: We talked about trying to use a zebra pattern in our iconography-- zebric -> zebra. Also bricks-- zebric -> brick. See attached for some very rough sketches. We're particularly interested in zebra pattern variations off of the circular one. Some of the design thoughts: * students might look similar from afar, but no two students have the same stripes when you look closely * the different sections of pattern (vertical, horizontal, zebra stripes) show the progress of the education system lining up kids one way, then another, then finally allowing them to have their own stripes I'll also attach a screen shot from our prototype app so you can see what the experience will look like.
