roopesh I got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Beautiful app icon for a Kids' counting game
Check out roopesh I's Icon or button contest…
We make math fun for kids, aged 6-9, by creating Math games. Parents and Teachers constantly write to us, telling us how much their kids have improved due to this game. Kids have a lot of fun, unlike worksheets or pseudo-gamified apps; and they improve a lot. We are now building a Counting game for 3 year olds - aiming to help even young learners start with Math. Having a great icon will inspire more people to recognize the quality of the app and explore further.
What's your vision?
We have a new Counting/Juicing game that we are launching in the next 2 months. We'd like to make a better icon for it, so that - 1. It better represents what's inside 2. It just makes people want to download the game. Pre-release link to the game: https://testflight.apple.com/join/u9c8Vg0U (you will need an iOS device to see this) Some screenshots related to the game are attached. We also have a testflight/Android beta build, so you can download it and check it out (note that the in-game art is not completely integrated). I'd prefer it if you download and play it once at least. The idea of the game and the gameplay loop is - Player (the child) is running a juice cafe and gets a Monster customer. Player can select fruits to make juice. As they select fruits, a counter helps them keep track of how many fruits they have got. Through this external repetition along with visual reinforcement, they learn counting, while having fun. Player uses different kitchen tools - the grinder to juice, the dispenser to put ice and other addons, and even a chopping board to chop some fruits before/after juicing. Each of these actions again reinforce counting. On finishing the juice, the player feeds the Monster, and the Monster goes back, happy. The Monster transforms on drinking juice and keeps “upgrading” - you can see some of the transformations in the assets. In terms of style, I have created a moodboard to share what we like and what we don’t - https://www.figma.com/proto/g7CMC03SECDL7XQexhr6if/Makkajai-Moodboards?node-id=1695%3A305&viewport=1614%2C748%2C0.3628123700618744&scaling=scale-down Obviously, it needs to match what's in our game, but feel free to be creative. With this particular game, we are trying to go for a “calm exploration” feeling - as such we’d like the icon to try and express such a feeling. The character of course can be a large part of the design, and it will help if counting is highlighted as well. Notes: - DO NOT Use the character asset as is. I am pretty sure it will not look good for an icon. It will be best to redraw it for the icon size. - DO - send in early sketches for feedback. I'll be happy to share feedback early so that it can save you time even before coloring them in. - DO - use rounded corners with App Store icon spec, so we can see how it looks as an actual icon.
This icon is meant to be attractive to Kids and Parents - since it's a kids' app. Also avoid any explicit/gross/aggressive themes. Even though our character is a monster, it needs to be cute. The main target audience is the parent, more likely Mom, of a 3 year old - consider what would make her feel this is a high-quality, fun game for her child. Not scary, and not too violent. Try putting it in front of other apps to see if it will stand out. Our main intention is of course more downloads get more app launches (by making it stand out in the apps that are already installed). 1 is influenced by parents, 2, very much by kids in addition to parents. I'm also attaching a few creatives from the game (how it will look finally) just to show what the characters and the game world looks like. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need anything more, but kindly be specific. Feel free to draw fresh instead of just using these creatives. (I don't even think it's a great idea to use them directly in the icon). To be used for both iPhone and iPad. I've also included a standard icon template - please put your design in this so it's easy to see how it will look.
