ConfusedVorlon got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
App icon for Mobile Movie
Check out ConfusedVorlon's Icon or button contest…
Mobile Movie is an application that makes it easy to transfer movies to your iPhone/iPad so that you can watch them later. That might be when you're going on a trip, commuting, or just to watch in bed in the evening. I'm looking for an icon to be used by the different parts of the application.
What's your vision?
I'll be using this icon for an iPhone app, and also for Mac and Windows applications. Key items to bring out -Movies/Films -Mobile/Travel I'm looking for something that is simple and iconic - not too fussy or complex. I like icons that are fun, interesting, arresting. ---design considerations You can see my existing apps here http://hobbyistsoftware.com/iAbout and here http://hobbyistsoftware.com/ I'll give a slight preference to icons that are somewhat similar in style to my existing icons; But the most important factor is the quality of the icon as it stands by itself. You can re-use the chrome from my other apps (attached to the project) if you think it creates a good icon, but this is definitely NOT a requirement. Please do not use the app name within the logo. ---size requirements It needs to handle a range of sizes from 1024*1024 px for the apple store various iPhone icon sizes 57*57 px 72*72 px 114*114 px and really tiny icons for the menubar/taskbar on mac/windows 18*18 px I'll also be using the icon in the mac and windows taskbars - so it needs to be flexible and self-contained! this probably needs two versions; the large version with sufficient detail and richness to work at 512, and a slightly simpler version of the same icon for the really small versions. ---- source requirements I'm expecting to get the full .psd .ai source (or equivalent in your design app)
if in doubt - ask me questions. I'll be providing regular feedback during UK waking hours! I expect to get full rights for commercial usage in the final icon. This means that you need to have copyright of what you create. if for some reason, you need to use a component which is not yours, then please be explicit about that when you post your design, and let me know what the licence implications are. equally - if you're using a commercial component to show a proof-of-concept, then that's 100% fine. It's a great way to try a concept without spending hours on the details. Please do mention it when you post though.

The job was to design two app screens. Working with obsidian_ was great as he is detail oriented, which you can clearly see in his meticulously beautiful designs.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
