MakerWear got their new clothing or apparel by running a design contest:
Good old-fashioned Vintage Americana on Shirts, Hats and Backpacks
Check out MakerWear's Clothing or apparel contest…
America is a country filled with a rich history of industrial craftsmanship, freedom of expression and small town culture. MakerWear wants you to show us your nostalgic, hometown pride by coming up with some cool designs inspired by the Golden Age of Vintage Americana. Think James Dean and Elvis playing vinyl records at the sock hop. Proud to be an independent, powerful American woman? Think Rosie the Riveter being a bad ass on retro 50’s signage. Or fashionable but classy pinup girls. Want to express your masculinity? Picture classic cars cruising down Route 66. We don’t want boring, blind American nationalism which orders us to be proud of our U.S. heritage– we want something that reminds of why we were proud to begin with. Find inspiration in folk, bluegrass, blues and rock and roll. Dig deep into antiquity with retro mill boxes, tin cans and elaborate needlepoint. Equally as important is the American immigrant story because this is a country with a rich cultural tapestry. Although it may not have always been perfect, we want to highlight the positive stories of people of different cultures living (and thriving) together. Need color inspiration? Make red, white and blue bold again. Combine the rich, red rust of industrial metals with the deep blues of the Great Lakes on the soft hue of the house on 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. We’re looking for photographs and/or well drawn illustrations. Wherever your instincts take you, be true to yourself. America was built on freedom of expression - Use it.
