driftingcollective got their new character or mascot by running a design contest:
A Mental Health Character for a new influence/fashion brand
Check out driftingcollective's Character or mascot contest…
We are beginning a new brand starting by selling clothing and decals with potential to branch out from there. Our main audience is largely younger (35 and under) while some emphasis on mental health awareness.
What's your vision?
We are looking to design a "character" or face for our brand. Our aim for the character is to resemble the conceptual design of the Kaws companion toys and Mickey Mouse. We want it to be slightly cartoony like the Kaws toy and Mickey Mouse with a 3d like depth to it. Requirements: - Our preference is majority smooth edges vs sharp edges. We want you best judgement with this too. - We desire black and white and we are very open to shading and such with greys. - We want our character to be proportioned similarly to the Kaws toys and Mickey Mouse, including the head being less human like. - Character should be standing up straight with arms straight down. Requirements for head and face (see uploaded image): - Our ideal thought is for a gear head (circular gear commonly used in mechanics), but if this feature doesn't fit with the rest of the features, the head can go towards a more of a unique oval style shape. - We want heart shaped ears. When looking at the character head on, we want the left ear with a broken heart and the right ear looking like a whole heart. - Looking head on, the character should have a nonuniform X for the left eye (same side as the broken heart ear). And the right eye closed but happier looking (see uploaded design). Does not have to be the same shape as design. - For the mouth we want it to be morse code for the letter D as in the design. Which is a dash dot dot. - If you think of another feature to help tie in the face properly, feel free to add it. Requirements for the body portion: - We want the proportions to be similar to the Kaws Companion Toy and Mickey Mouse, and we like the round "bubble" characteristics of these characters. - We do not want the circles on the pants/shorts like Mickey Mouse. - When facing the character on the right side chest area (opposite side of the broken heart ear), we want a small pocket with the corner of a piece of paper sticking out. - We like the bubbly gloves on the hands but the designer has freedom on that. - For the left hand facing the character (side with the broken heart ear), the hand must have something dripping from it with the consistency of blood or oil (it is not blood so it does not need to be colored red). - Opposite hand can be holding something symbolizing good mental health or be holding nothing at all. - We like the bubbly design of the Kaws toy feet.
All of these things are what we want, but we are open to the designers freedom to help design the character in a cohesive way. There is a theme where one side of the character (the broken heart ear side) is more broken and depressed than the other side which is more free and happy, but the color of the character is all around the same. We like shading for effect!
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Character or mascot starts at $349.
