Outlandish Josh got their new character or mascot by running a design contest:
Create the Mascot for the Drupal Dojo Re-Boot

We are a community of people who learn to implement Drupal websites by live streaming our experiences. We started over a decade ago, and are re-booting the project for the latest release of Drupal. The plan is to use Twitch to stream, but we are also setting up our own web-page to help the group organize/etc. The audience is intermediate to advanced professional website developers.
What's your vision?
The original instance of the group had a community member who did some great iconic character drawings that really helped create an identity: https://groups.drupal.org/drupal-dojo https://groups.drupal.org/files/dojo_poster_sm.jpg We'd love to get a fresh take on the idea: a personified Drupalicon in a Karate Gi (or similar outfit) that we can put in various inspiring ass-kicking poses. I think we are leaning towards an androgynous design, but it might be interesting to think about presenting the character concept in both male/female forms. We want to make sure it doesn't send a "guys only" message.
For the launch of the website to announce the re-boot, we are first looking for a single image that we can use on a splash page, but we'll definitely want to think about a number of different poses/takes over time if the project gets momentum again. Ultimately it could be something where there are multiple characters forming a group. These are cool! It may sound weird, but the character should actually not have a "human" face since we want it to represent the logo for Drupal. See the attached artwork for examples of how others do this. That said, I think it would be appropriate to have a version with longer hair to signal femininity, and possibly incorporating shorter hair or a beard to signal masculinity.
