How Jasonmcmahon started their button or icon journey
This is an iPhone app icon, for Glamoo.com. The Glamoo iPhone app is a mobile fashion shopper assistant.
Our old iPhone app icon is attached. Definitely too dark, and doesn't catch your eye enough. Using our Owl logo in the icon, is highly optional. We currently use quite a bit of green in our branding, but we are toning that down. Should use green accents at the most.
My initial thoughts are a white background with a more colorful and eye-catching Owl. Or a trendy handbag. Really open to exploring new ideas.
Fyi.. we are no longer using the tagline "Smart Buying Club". If you would like to incorporate a tagline, please use "Mobile Personal Shopper".
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
Our primary target audience is fashionable, trendy, affluent (though value conscience), female. Though males use the app as well, so it shouldn't be over-the-top female orientated.
There is a geo-location component to the app. Find fashionable stores and shopping 'around you'. This may or may not be displayed in the icon, but should appear too techy.
I've included some screenshots from the app, so you get a sense of the design tone. Quite a bit different from the website (glamoo.com)
The two primary design requirements, are fashionable and noticeable. iPhone app icons compete for attention, amongst a sea of other icons. The desire is to be catchy and noticeable (bright colors?), while still be fashionable (we have several fashion brand names, that need to be comfortable being associated with us).
