chrisdoble got their new button or icon by running a design contest:
Icon for exploration-based iPhone app

What's your vision?
I need an icon for my exploration-based iPhone app. The app records your movements using the phone's GPS and draws them on a map, showing where you've been. The map is initially greyed-out, but areas are revealed as you explore—essentially fog of war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fog_of_war#Simulations_and_games). The icon should communicate the app's focus on exploration. I think a map would be best, possibly showing where someone has explored. I'm open to other ideas, though. I'm fond of the icon on the left here: http://dribbble.com/shots/190519-Kiwi-Maps-and-Settings I like the bright colours and folds in the map, in particular. I also like this icon: http://dribbble.com/shots/97186-Timelapse-icon Again, the bright colours are nice as well as the subtle grid lines. Other requirements: • 90° corners • Must look good at both low (57x57) and high (512x512) resolutions • No gloss/shine • No text • No transparency • Layered .PSD/.AI files must be provided.
