We need an application logo/icon for our Facebook app. The app does social music recommendation. It needs to feel exciting, cool, connected, and have some reference to sound/music.
The icon will need to come in 3 sizes:
(1) The small icon size (16x16 px) you see here: http://www.facebook.com/settings/?t…plications
(2) The larger logo size you see when on the top right when you use an app (34x34 px)
(3) A large scalable size (either vector or hi-res raster) that we can use for a desktop version of the app we will sell in the Mac App Store. This needs to look shiny and cool like the best new apps do. We will also want to show this in large size on presentations etc, so nice detail will help. You will probably want to start with this size.
I've attached a screenshot showing sizes 1 and 2 and their context ("Two sizes of Facebook icons.png"). I just measured those icon sizes off the screen, you might want to check them.
I've also attached our main idea for the design of the icon, which is that it should look like "Design inspiration 1.jpeg", except perhaps with some perspective and perhaps with CDs or records instead of the circles. "Design inspiration 2.jpeg" has CDs and also has the kind of perspective we have in mind. This design brings together the themes of "connected" and "CD/record" that we think will work. Feel free to play with slightly different geometries and ideas though.
LOOK AND FEEL
Finally I've also attached 2 inspirations as a little mood board for looks that are appealing to us. "Look inspiration 1.png" has a great background that conveys excitement - something very similar to this could be great, especially for the large sized logo. And "Look inspiration 2.png" is also just something we found cool - it's different though.
What would be great to see is a mix of entries - some that try to execute on the exact idea above really well, since I think it could really work for us, and others that riff off the main idea to try other directions you think could be even better. I'm happy to give feedback to help improve.
It would be a bonus for us to find a designer we can continue to work with on follow-up designs for this new startup.
