One of the designers who made it happen

Winner - pixilated
pixilated is a World Class designer. I've tried looking for local designers in my area, but it was tough to find the talent I was looking for. pixilated was able to do everything I had hoped for and exceeded all expectations. I am simply amazed at the quality, and the detail of his work and the speed he can do it. It was a pleasure to work with him.

Overview

I'm an Indie Macintosh software developer publishing my own software since 1996.

I'm the author of the popular A Better Finder Rename file renamer, its side-kick A Better Finder Attributes, the MacBreakZ personal ergonomic assistant and more recently "The Big Mean Folder Machine" file collection re-organizer.

Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach

My target audience are Macintosh users, in particular creative professionals, so a well executed icon is both essential and certain to be appreciated. This is your opportunity to put your design skills in front of tens of thousands of users on a regular basis.

A Better Finder Attributes is used primarily by creative professionals, focusing on digital photographers, website designers, graphics artists but also including the odd system administrator.

Requirements

The project is to design a new (hopefully better) icon for version 5 of the established A Better Finder Attributes product.

For more complete information on the product check out its homepage:

Deliverables:

* Mac OS X icns file with all standard sizes from 512x512
* Original layered image file preferably in PSD format

Design Brief:

I don't have my heart set on a particular design, part of your work will be to come up with an icon that reflects the product's purpose and capabilities.

The icon has to be palatable to other graphics designers and photographers in particular. It should look polished but not necessarily "serious"; a bit wacky is okay.

The product icon is going to take up a good chunk of web page real-estate, so it needs to look good as a product logo as well as a product icon; keep an eye out for what it's going to look like on the existing pages:

It would be an advantage if it fitted in well with the icon for its companion product "A Better Finder Rename", but this isn't crucial. Both products can have separate identities.

It might be easier to find common ground with the icon for "The Big Mean Folder Machine". It could be fun to keep with its industrial theme and have a "file" machine open for maintenance, with the cogs and wheels showing.
