Business & Consulting
In short, Spur is a leadership coaching firm. We don't do "life coaching" and we're not a consulting group, because we get into-the-weeds -- we don't just analyze and make suggestions. Spur is an on-site, hands-on, coaching organization inspired by Hebrews 10.24 ("Spur one another on to love and good work"), to transform business cultures toward belonging, high-trust, and engagement with employees and within teams. We are built to equip middle and senior managers to overcome leadership anxieties, engage relationships with frontline employees, and lead in humility with a coaching mindset. Yes we hold Christian values (whatever that might mean to the general public; please don't let that prevent you from submitting!). We're neither bashful nor rude in our 1-on-1 coaching sessions - we'll cut through the BS and call it how it is, but always with your best interest at heart. We see ourselves as a kind and true mirror for the people we coach and the teams we work with. We guide leaders toward personal reflection (which is sometimes painful), owning their stuff, personal growth, hard conversations, and doing the right thing even when it's the toughest thing and nobody else is doing it. In other words, our coaching is a "spur" to help leaders make clear commitments to do the best thing for their people, for themselves, and for the long-term. We are determined to create healthy cultures with leaders who are willing to put in the hard work. We focus our work with small businesses (usually less than 200 employees) who have a high percentage of frontline employees and/or employees who earn less than $30/hour, because of the unique challenges they face. Many of these employees are the working poor and/or have barriers to employment - such as being formerly incarcerated, in addiction recovery, etc. Our work creates the right environment for more equitable career paths. We're in Denver, CO so the western motif of the spur resonates. Spurs are used to make CAREFUL adjustments to guide a horse toward their next move, by skilled riders in trusted relationship with their horse, in order to get the best possible performance. Spurs are dangerous like a scalpel is dangerous - and leaders can damage the people who work for them just as easily if they're not skilled at leading. We think of leaders as the ones who must be skilled at giving appropriate, focused, humble, timely, situational feedback and care to the employees who report to them. We build the skills for them to do so, first by modelling it, second through assisted self-assessment and discovery, third through curriculum, and fourth through workshops with peers. We believe these skills are tremendously lacking in leaders today - leaders either provide too little feedback and accept poor performance, or they micro-manage and stifle their employees with too much negative feedback because they carry too much anxiety about the performance of their employees.
I’m interested in a simple mark and in combination logos. If you've got a pithy slogan that you want to add, I'm all-for it. The images I've included are for inspiration on the American West motif. Please note that any "spur" looking at all similar to the Coronavirus or a Star-of-David will not be chosen! A simple asterisk may be simpler / better. I'm inclined to a 6- or 8-point spur.
