Food & Drink
1861 makes artisan whiskeys and bourbons.
We want the brand to have a luxurious, southern, genteel feel. We want it to feel old (established, slower pace of life, people connecting with one another by sharing a drink). It's okay if it has hints of Victorian design/lettering, but we want to be careful not to go too far in that direction. If possible, we would also like it to have the letters H and F tucked away somewhere in the design in a way that is hardly noticeable. Those are the last name initials of my husband and his friend who are doing this together. This business came from two friends slowing down and taking time to hang out in a shed crafting the best whiskeys and enjoying time away from the business of life. We chose the name 1861 because Thomasville was the terminus for the railroad then and became known as the “Winter Resort of the South.” Northerners came to Thomasville for their health, breathing the pine-scented air as a curative for pulmonary ailments. They were soon joined by friends to enjoy hunting, fishing, and an active social life, including golf, horse racing, and bicycling. Thomasville came to represent the best of Southern hospitality with the lavishness of the resort lifestyle. These wealthy families bought property and built grand mansions and plantation homes. Many of these plantations are still owned by the families who built them and are visited year round. We would like the logo to have a hint of railroad/train, but we want it to be incredibly subtle and something that you really have to look closely to notice. I will attach a sample logo that I made for them, but it's made with pieces of stock art and was made in 30 minutes. I will admit it's horrible. The new logo that is made for them doesn't have to be anything like this one, but it's also okay if it is similar. They (my husband and friend who are doing this business) are somewhat attached to it because they started with it. I made it for them just for fun but would like for them to have something nicer and professionally designed. At a minimum I would like to see cleaner lines, look a little more masculine, a little less Victorian and have it look a little less "fussy". But again...totally okay with something completely different. There are some ridiculously talented designers on here, and I don't want to discourage completely new ideas because I know they will be so much better! We are looking for neutral colors. Our target audience includes males and females who are willing to spend more for quality/luxury items. Also attaching a few pictures of the kind of feel we will be going for when we are able to open a tasting room/retail location.
