Design a logo & brand identity for a heritage farm/agritourism estate

UPDATE to brief - contest extended for 3 days!

After reviewing many wonderful designs, we have a better sense of what resonates with us:

1. The logo should pay homage to the age and gravitas of the estate (but we are not a winery!).

2. The farm has much farm character and patina. The logo should reflect that in a refined and elevated way (not a significantly distressed or “aged” logo). As much as we enjoy hyper-contemporary/abstract design, it does not fit with the ethos of the farm and would look out of place against a century and a half of use.

3. This property was originally an industrialist’s country estate and details throughout the property reflect a grand past of wealth and status (see additional photos of original house door hardware for Victorian and Edwardian design inspirations found throughout the property).

4. We would like plants or flowers in the logo (we like linden blossoms or trees, blackberries, thistles). We also keep bees and one in the logo would be nice. The logo should evoke feelings of natural and organic things.

5. The logo should be easily readable so please avoid fine script in “Keating Farm”.

6. The barn is the first structure visitors see as they come on to the property; if you include landscape or structure, we prefer the image to be representative of our property.

7. The logo must have multiple options for short form, stamp form, and applicability to the multiple media described in the original brief.

Logo uses and notes:
From stationary, social media, and business cards to rubber stamps, embroidered linen and hand painted signs (and even branding irons for wooden ware and leather goods). May be helpful to have a “full” logo and pared down version of logo centerpiece. Timeless, classic, scalable.

Location:
The Cowichan Valley is a unique location on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada with a strong local food culture and is a seasonal tourist destination. With nearly 4,200 square kilometers containing a population of 83,000, it is home to farmers, fishers, artisanal cheese makers and award-winning brewers and vintners. Surrounded by the mountains, old growth forests and coastal wilderness, the valley is Canada’s only maritime Mediterranean climate and has the warmest mean year-round temperature in the country.

Keating Farm is a 27-acre heritage farm estate and one of the oldest homesteads in British Columbia. Located an hour north of Victoria, the estate has been in operation since the nineteenth century and continues today as a diversified farm offering exceptional products.
