Fightin' dirty for the desert's blue gold
Entertainment & The Arts
Documentary Film. Logline: "A high stakes game for water rights between West Texas Ranchers & Farmers, Politicians & a Billionaire, played out on the battlefields of America’s western desert & the Texas Supreme Court, situated amidst a deep history & the future of water conservation." And if you win this logo & branding competition, we can talk later about doing our movie poster, if and only if, that is something you do and desire to do. It's not expected.
I'm interested in a text based logo that has a subtle "something" extra incorporated into the text. Not a separate symbol or icon. Fairly minimalist. Cleverly related to the theme, though pressing into abstract is ok. ATTACHED. \\\\ I will attach three movie poster examples. My purpose in doing so isn't as much about their typography (though I do like them) but rather about the poster designs. Looking forward, I envision a similar poster style and know that our logo should work within that style. \\\\ I will attach four logos of classic films whose logos are text based and have that something extra built into them. These are NOT logo styles to pursue in terms of graphics, but in theory only. MORE ABOUT THE FILM. \\\\ Much of this film involves a court case that pit Ranchers and Farmers against each other. Our hero is a cowboy rancher. They fought legally over rights to groundwaters beneath barren West Texas deserts. \\\\ Here are some excerpts from the film's synopsis, which can provide more clues to the context and mood. "The valuable West Texas area known as “The Valley of Hidden Waters” conceals both groundwaters & hidden agendas. Looking out at the open desert, one’s vision soars over an endless landscape, but what lies beneath it? Blue-gold. Aquifers. The Molecule of Life." "In high-dollar deals with big cities, like thirsty El Paso, experienced landowners know to ask the same of people that they ask of their dirt: What's underneath the surface?" "“New rules” at the county level had given a select few big farmers preferential treatment worth millions. The county waterboard had not broken any laws. Yet other local ranchers, including the well-known Lynch Family, also suspected a dirty agenda buried beneath. What political maneuvering had taken place without their knowing?" "What can, or can't, Texan landowners do with their ownership of ancient aquifers that the indigenous Coahuiltecans revere as their creation origins. With survival on their minds, these ancestral elders left us painted rock art in the Rio Grande with maps to the locations of four major groundwater aquifers in Texas. However, it is the people of today who are tasked with drawing maps to our future: How we are to farm, to consume & conserve water, & how are we to best share the blue-gold liquid of life?"
