The inspiration behind ROMA and its logo is not modern Italy or Italian food but the ancient roman empire.
This sense of the ancient is is a theme that we need to see in our logo. The look of cast iron, bronze and copper as would be seen on a gladiators armor are things we would like to see reflected in the logo design. Also the red brick and terracotta that ancient Rome was primarily built from is another visual inspiration designers should draw from.
The Roma logo we are seeking must also represent the charcoal grilling that is the backbone of our cooking style. Heat ,flames ,smoke , charcoal and hot coals are all elements we would like to see reflected in your design and its color scheme.
We would be very interested to see some use of Photoshop etc to see some photo realistic fire ,hot coals, cast iron/bronze,brick in some designs but again we are open to anything you think may work for ROMA.
Then added to this theme of of ancient Rome we need just a hint of our Japanese influences,we like the idea of chopsticks being used, although keep in mind in Japanese culture crossing chopsticks into an "x" is offensive and as such cant be used,We also like the look of very sharp Japanese katana blades.
Our ingredients are fresh, locally sourced Hokkaido produce and our cooking style marries japans yakitori skewers with Italian style of Spiedini and Bistecca.
The logo must also contain the words "italian izakaya".
All of these elements are vital influences for a successful ROMA logo design.
We have included a large assortment of images, some for a general sense of tone and some because we like specific elements of them.
We hope these images give you the idea of what we are looking for.
Please keep in mind we are not looking for anything cartoonish. The logo should have an upmarket, powerful and weighty feel to it,also we are not necessarily looking for gladiator armor or katana swords themselves to be included in our logo its more the look of the materials they were made from that we like and would like to see reflected in the logo design.
"charcoal grilling" and and "grilling steak"
We like the intensity of the coals ,the colors and the simplicity of just meat and fire is similar to what ROMA will be doing.
We like the small knobs protruding from the top of the helmet,we also like the angular look of the nose.
"katana blades,points etc"
We like the look of these very sharp Japanese blades.
A blade like these could be used as the housing for the words "italian izakaya at the bottom of a ROMA logo that is primarily driven by the ancient roman/fire and coals theme for the rest of it.
We are more interested in just the blade of these katanas rather than the whole sword, handle, sheath etc.
We really like this logo for jacks butcher. We like the look of weight and tactile, metallic heaviness that the text and background has and the sense of real heat the flame detailing gives.
By no means should you copy this logo but we feel it should be a good source of inspiration for what we are looking for.
we like the look of the cast iron in this photo, the coloring and the weight.
This photo is very similar to what our ROMA kitchens will look like, they will be visible to dinners and a big part of the ROMA experience.
Fire, coals, meat, metal and red brick are the visual elements of our kitchen and should be reflected in our logo.
"shoulder armor" and "stylized armor"
What we like about these images is the the way the sections of metal and other materials are cobbled together. The way the chest piece sections join in the stylized armor looks great.
We like elements of the color and text although we do not want this exact font used directly.
