Zomcation (a mashup of the words "zombie" and "vacation" is the story of Jack Mackenzie, a big, muscular, tall special ops soldier with a buzz cut who gets drummed out of the army on bogus charges. Finding difficulty getting back to civilian life, he has a hard time finding a job and must live with his nerdy sister Abby, a chubby bespectacled librarian with a heart of gold.
Abby is separated from her adulterous husband and has two kids - Paige, age 16, who has glasses, braces and frizzy hair and is constantly posting literally everything she does on social media. She's glued to her phone. Dylan is 14 and is a bit of a hipster - he's into rap music and accusing everyone of being against his social justice warrior ideals.
Jack's not a big fan of living with his sister, but eventually he gets guilted into taking the family on a trip to Wombat World, a theme park in Florida dedicated to Willy Wombat, America's favorite cartoon marsupial.
The story is a blend of horror, action, and comedy. Yes, it is basically one giant parody of a certain Florida theme park dedicated to a famous cartoon mouse.
While at the park, a terrorist group unleashes a zombifying virus that turns the attendees into zombies. It's up to Jack to save his family, save the day, and fight his way out of the park.
Along the way, he'll befriend Jess, an aspiring actress (pretty brunette) who used to play a princess at the park until she turns 30 and is told the only part for her is to wear the oversized plush wombat costume.
Also coming to help is Doug, a Wombat World security guard who is way too by the book and is presented as a parody of cop drama style cops. (i.e. his job as a security guard sucks but he thinks he is very important).
I'm giving you character descriptions in case you need them. It's up to you, I'm not sure if they would be on the cover or not.
As for the cover, I'd defer to the most awesome, eye popping design that's most likely to bring in lots of clicks to my book.
My initial thought is maybe the cover would be an amusement park filled with gruesome zombies. Note the zombies would be in clothes that you'd wear to a park in Florida, so no overcoats or something.
Zombies on a roller coaster? Zombies on a Ferris wheel? Zombies on the tilt a whirl? Zombies on some kind of ride?
Maybe Jack fighting a zombie in the theme park? Or maybe zombies at the theme park?
I'll leave it up to you. Maybe you'll have an idea I never would have even come up with.
Up to you. I need a book cover that's awesome, not too cluttered, sleek and stylish and awesome and overall denotes the fact that the book is about zombies taking over an amusement park.
