How KateMacLeod42 started their book cover journey
Kate MacLeod lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota with her husband and two sons, although they may head further north soon, as the winters in Minnesota just don’t get cold enough anymore. She has two dogs, Mugen and Tachikoma, and a cat named Spike "Blondie Bear" Spiegel so you know her geek cred is real. Her short fiction has appeared in Strange Horizons, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, and Abyss and Apex among others. Find out more about the author at katemacleod.net.
Young Adult, Fiction
MITWA is a character-driven sci-fi I hope will appeal to YA readers who like their sci-fi up in the unforgiving cold of space, where the difference between life and death is measured by the thickness of your ship's hull.
When Omesh is forced to leave his parents behind on Earth to live with his uncle he discovers the name of his new home, Barnacle Town, is not a joke, it really is built from derelict space ships clinging precariously to the outside of a corporate space station. New friends alleviate the homesickness by showing him the world of kung fu in the free fall at the station's core and the sumo school where students learn to compete not just on Earth but also on the moon and Mars where the lower gravity is not a wrestler's friend. But when Omesh and his friends uncover a plot to remove Barnacle Town, people and all, they find themselves lost in the slum’s tangled political landscape of dons power-playing each other. There is no help to be found within the space station either; the corporate officials are all either uncaring or powerless. There is no time to evacuate the people, and the only options seem to be a slow death in the black of space or a fast one crashing down to the moon below. The CEO's son may know another way, if he's willing to betray his own family. Which he just might do for the sake of the girl both he and Omesh love.
Teens and young adults, both genders but possibly more appealing to girls who are into STEM and sci-fi.

What colors do you want to see in your design?
eBook cover should be 6 x 9 inches. My other eBooks have my author name in Classic Roman and I'd like to match for the sake of branding.
