john.stepper got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Working Out Loud: a cover that will inspire people to build a better network, career, and life
Check out john.stepper's Book cover contest…
The book is called “Working Out Loud.” Working out loud is working in an open, generous, connected way so you can build a purposeful network, become more effective, and access more opportunities. The book will help people learn both what to do and how to do it. To put the ideas into practice, people are forming small support groups called working out loud circles. The target audience is anyone who wants to increase their chances of finding meaning & fulfillment in their work and life. Working out loud is a human process first and a technological one second. Think “Dale Carnegie meets the Internet.” In circles, people ask themselves 3 basic questions: What am I trying to accomplish? Who can help me? What can I contribute to these people to deepen our relationship? Then for 12 weeks they practice deepening relationships through a range of specific contributions. Here are some short posts with more about the book and the peer support groups. http://www.johnstepper.com/working-out-loud-the-book/ http://www.johnstepper.com/2014/05/24/the-best-peer-support-group-for-your-career/ http://www.johnstepper.com/2014/07/19/how-working-out-loud-circles-could-transform-your-organization/
What's your vision?
I’m hoping for a simple, clear design for the front, back, and binding of the book that’s also (somehow!) inviting and human. A friend designed two versions of a cover that might spark additional ideas. You can read positive and negative reactions to them in this post: http://www.johnstepper.com/2014/08/23/help-wanted-making-this-book-cover-better/ Ideally, the book covers calls to mind the idea of creating connections in a way that’s human and generous as opposed to, say, personal branding via social media. Thus, no megaphone icons and no need to emphasize LOUD in the title. A relevant title is Adam Grant’s “Give and Take.” http://www.amazon.com/Give-Take-Revolutionary-Approach-Success/dp/0670026557 BTW, I’ve dropped the “How to” in the subtitle. The subtitle is now “Building a better network, career, and life”
All royalties go to donorschoose.org and education causes around the world. The book is completed. I'm self-publishing it and it will be available on Amazon as a paperback and ebook in November, 2014.
