How kaballa69 started their book cover journey
A Dog Named Scratch Part One: Bullies of the Mountain
Austin Elijah is a freelance writer who, after spending years writing for professional organizations, decided to transfer his accumulated skills and knowledge to creating books. He uses personal experiences to take his readers on vivid and imaginative journeys in stories that always have a theme designed to evoke thought provoking dialogue. Themes such as the consequences of bullying, injustice, acceptance versus tolerance, personal empowerment, and the importance of family among many others. In addition to crafting tales, Austin loves learning, sports, personal growth, and spending time with his family.
Young Adult, Fiction
Both haunting and redemptive, this quintessential American epic is rooted in heartbreaking yet relatable tragedies . A Dog Named Scratch delves the harrowing depths of human brutality and betrayal, while never losing sight of the enduring power of hope and forgiveness.
Animal lovers, dog lovers, pet lovers, anyone in the the YA genre, anyone who reads fiction books where the animal is the main character.
What colors do you want to see in your design?
The book is one that tells the tragic story of a dog's life. But it also tells of the loyalty and strength of a dog. It is a somber story. Definitely not a happy tale. I would like to hint at a dog. I don't want a dog on the cover. The story is set in a rural community in the mountains of West Virginia. So, an abandoned dog house. Or a spike outside of a dilapidated dog house with a chain running from the spike to the black interior of the dog house. Or a dog's paw sticking out a dilapidated dog house in the rain. Or a run down dog house under a tree. I have attached the old cover which I don't like. I need something more substantial and professional.
What to avoid
Blatantly putting a dog on the cover. A tone that is happy upbeat. The day can be sunny, but if a dog house used, it has to be run down and dilapidated.
