Fr James Mawdsley

Fr James Mawdsley grew up in Lancashire, England. He is author of "The Heart Must Break: the Fight for Democracy and Truth in Burma" (2001), detailing his three detentions as a political prisoner in Burma. During 17 months of solitary confinement he received the Bible which helped turn his cell from “hell to heaven”. In 2003-2004 he served as Secretariat to British-North Korean All-Party Parliamentary Group, sitting in on high level political-military meetings in Pyongyang and London. Having met former prisoners and guards who had defected, Mawdsley’s priority in arranging these exchanges was to challenge the North Korean government for their gulag system. Through time spent with tyrants, and an increasing love of the Church, Mawdsley discerned that there is no political solution to the question of evil unless the Church fulfil her mission. The Son of God, Jesus Christ, overcomes every evil. After being surprised by a crystal clear call to the priesthood, Fr Mawdsley was ordained a Catholic priest in 2016, celebrating the traditional Roman rite only. He is author of "Crushing satan's head: The Virgin Mary's Victory over the Antichrist Foretold in the Old Testament" (2022).

Adam's Deep Sleep is an exploration of how the Passion of Jesus Christ is prefigured through the experiences of many persons in the Old Testament. Specifically it how their various 'deep sleeps' point to the Crucifixion, beginning with that of Adam when God drew Eve from his side while he was sleeping.

Catholics and other Christians. I have tried to avoid being academic, and wish to also reach people who have not studied theology nor ancient languages. So it is for 20 years olds and older, men and women.
