Boyan Angelov got their new book cover by running a design contest:
A sleek, modern cover to showcase systems thinking for management consultants.

Elements of Data Strategy
Boyan Angelov has started his career working on metagenomic data at a Max-Planck Institute in Germany. After this, he went through various domains as a data scientist, spent years in management consulting, and worked as a CTO. He has consulted on data and strategic topics for organizations around the world. Additionally, he has done research in the field of XAI, published in Ecography. He has also authored the O’Reilly book “Python and R for the Modern Data Scientist.”
The huge potential of data remains largely unfulfilled and only limited to tech giants. This book aims to correct that by providing a framework to design a data strategy - a roadmap for delivering data products and projects successfully.
Managers, executives, and management consultants (McKinsey, Deloitte, Accenture, BCG).
The ideal book cover should be clean, focused, and minimalistic in design, easy on the eye. Some keywords on the mood: calm, structure, innovation. Systems thinking is a fundamental method used in the book, and it would be great if this is represented on the cover. You can have a look at the design I made (attached title_page.png) to get an idea. Perhaps there can be a visualization showing how different modular elements combine together to form a larger whole (much like Lego bricks). As for the dimensions, I would go with a technical book standard: 7.0" x 9.1", 17.8cm x 23.1cm.
What to avoid
A good thing to avoid is photos of people, and I would definitely like the avoid the imagery that is traditionally associated with data and AI - such as robots touching a 3D screen, etc.
It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their book cover.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.

And then… they selected a winner!
Excellent work! Very thoughtful and proactive. Had great attention to detail and was very open to feedback to improve the design. Went above and beyond to deliver the best work possible. And on top, if it very fast and communicative. I would love to work together again!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
