My Dad. A computer science engineer by day, and a Russian Literature writer by night. He works till he’s forced to close the shade from the new day’s glare. Painstakingly agonizing over each symbol and word choice. It’s humbling to witness.
The book is about the growing relationship between a boy and his mother, and in time, a young man's drastic shift in lens as a result of learning hardening truth about her. This truth being something that he once knew as the bedrock of his entire person. Now is gone.
The audiences of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Nabokov. This is not a light read. It is a dense and insightful piece. Most likely an older population of well read interested readers.
The vision is to depict a world turned upside-down. The idea is to show a large building in the foreground that subtly reminds the viewer of the bow of a boat. The sky and the sea need to be reversed in their position. The sea should be rough and unsettled, with the building’s roof reminding the viewer of the bottom of a ship- this should elicit a subtle feeling of movement through the water. The sky should be dark, and the building should also feel like it’s flying through the clouds (which will be located on the bottom of the image). The illustration should not feel like a fantasy, it needs to convey a sense of realism and confusion. This image, shown as a draft in the attached, symbolizes a young man learning a shocking truth that quite literally turns his world upside down. The attached is a pretty close, but needs to be brought to life and look professional. As a creative person, I can understand that creating something with such narrow and strict guidelines is stifling. So we appreciate the willingness to take on a project like this on! Hoping that the Russian title and author's name is as simple as a copy paste!
