Never Accept Your New Normal
Michael Longyear DC, DACNB, CCSP
Author bio: Dr Michael Longyear is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board and Certified Sports Physician. After suffering a traumatic injury in a football game and learning he’d never walk again, he decided to defy the odds and managed to not only walk again, but a whole lot more. Now he works with professional and collegiate athletes. He specialized in concussion and neuro performance as well as childhood neurodevelopmental disorders. He’s married to his lovely and very tolerant wife. They live in Jacksonville Beach, Florida with their two spoiled rescue dogs, Charlie and Bailey. When he’s not working, he can be found on the beach, hiking, or perfecting his kite surfing skills. He hopes to improve the lives of others and to spread a message that we should always strive to be better, no matter what we’re told.
A diagnosis is not a death sentence. Take it from Michael Longyear, a clinical director and researcher at NeuroLIFE Institute with Life University and Brain Optimization Institute in Florida. After a devastating diagnosis of a spinal stroke, Michael was told he’d never walk again. This book is his personal journey to not only walking again, but learning to live a reasonably normal life after his injury. He wants to teach others that a diagnosis is not a limitation, it’s simply something we’re told. It doesn’t have to become your whole life or a new normal. Using neuroscience, he describes his healing method and even includes patient stories. It’s not junk science or popular science, it’s complex neuroscience that breaks down how our bodies can heal from most injuries. He attempts to simplify this difficult to understand topic for anyone to understand. So if you’re ready to learn cutting edge, complex ideas in research and healthcare that are showing we can heal, then this is the book for you.
People faced with a debilitating injury or condition and health care providers 20-50 years old
Book cover type
I want something that speaks to my story of triumph getting out of a wheelchair and walking again and even playing football again even though I was told i would never walk again. I also want the nueroscience in the image somehow as that is a big part of who i am now and how i practice to work with current patients
