I'm a traditionally published author who's branching into self-publishing. My readership is primarily female.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
I need a book cover for the first novel in the mystery series I'm launching this summer. It's not a "cozy" mystery, so no cartoon sketches. Nor is it hard-boiled crime, so nothing too dark or scary, though it should be clearly identifiable as a mystery. I want a look that will make my book stand out in this crowded genre, one that will appeal to female readers. Be original! I don't want something that could be any genre. The setting for the novel is a northern California seaside community. Here's a brief description of the plot: Tish Ballard thought she’d seen it all in her line of work as property manager, from home invasions to cheating spouses. Until she discovers the skeletal remains of a dead woman. When dental records show the remains to be those of her own mother who’d been missing since she was a child, she’s plunged into a deadly labyrinth of lies and long-buried secrets in her search for the killer. The title is BONES & ROSES. The author (my) name: Eileen Goudge
The main thing to keep in mind is that it's for an e-book, so the cover has to "pop" when shrunk to the size of a postage stamp. Title and name should be clearly readable. The photos below are of the real-life setting that inspired my fictional one. They are not cover concepts, merely to give a feel for the locale.
